VisualNews Grid News Layout Wordpress Theme Released

VisualNews Grid News Layout WordPress Theme Released

Today we are proud to announce the release of our VisualNews wordpress news theme. Visual news is a modern image driven grid based wordpress theme that will transform your site into a fully functioning news portal.

VisualNews is a theme we developed to give your wordpress site a professional news website feel whil still being relatively light on server resources as standard. The codebase is also easy for even beginners to understand and edit with the minimum of fuss. Coded to wordpress theme standards and checked with the wordpress Theme Checker tool set (The same tool set wordpress.org uses to scan submitted themes to their website) you can be safe in the knowledge that VisualNews is a robust and secure theme will all its code being 3.3 ready. In fact the demo is running v3.3 of wordpress right now.

Some VisualNews Features

  • Configurable FaceBook Like and Google+ Button In Header
  • Use of Google Custom Search Integrated
  • Integrated Widget Advertising Positions (You could use WordPress Adrotate Plugin)
  • Latest, Top Rated, Most Read and Most Discussed Sections
  • Feedburner Email Subscription Integration
  • Widgetized Footer Section
  • Custom Latest, Most Discussed, Most Read Sidebar & Recent Comments Widgets
  • Facebook Like, Twitter, Google Plus and AddThis Share Button Integration on Article Pages
  • GD Star Rating Plugin Integration (Thumb Rating Only)
  • WordPress SEO by Yoast Plugin Integration
  • WP Post Views Plugin Integration
  • Simple Theme Options Panel
  • Four Colour Schemes, Blue, Red, Orange & Green

All of the VisualNews article images are created by the wordpress internal image function so no resizing is necessary when uploading images to articles you post, this also means no custom fields are used for any of the sites images making posting articles a much quicker task.

We though in todays fast paced news environment that sometimes you may only want to summarise or share you opinion on a news story sourced from another site, VisualNews allows you to add if you wish the URL of the news source when creating a post / article. The full post url will automatically be shortened to only display the source sites main domain name, this links however to the sources original article page. Although the intention of this feature if for referencing external news sources it could also be used for any type of link affiliate, download etc.

With the use of some plugins the theme can also display a Most Read section (calculated by total number of post views) and a Top Rated section (calculated by total number of votes). It displays Latest and Most Discussed without the use of plugins.

Advertising is provided via dynamic widget sections within the theme, we recommend the use of the Adrotate plugin for wordpress as you can really control your advertising and create advertising groups that rotate adverts. Once you have created you advert groups in the correct size you can insert them easily into the theme via Adrotate widgets. To achieve the best effect with your adverts groups should ideally have more than one advert banner so they rotate several, this works great especially for the Grid Layout 728×90 advert positions.

Custom widgets included within the theme are the Latest Articles Widget, Most Read Articles Widget, Most Discussed Articles Widget & Recent Comments Widget.

Available Advert Sizes and Positions

  • Header 728×90 Banner
  • Grid Layout 728×90 Banner
  • Grid Layout 234×90 Banner
  • Single Post 486×60 Banner

what about localization, if you support localizaton .po files fully, I am going to buy immediately.

    1. Stuart says:

Hi Johny the theme is fully localized with PO files that allow you to translate the themes text. We recommend you use a program like POedit to translate the theme ;)

  2. johny says:

I wish there was ajax support like this one: http://demo.colorlabsproject.com/?theme=simplereader

    1. Stuart says:

What ajax are you referring to on the simplereader theme?

      1. johny says:

I mean using ajax between top rated, most rated and most discussed in the homepage.

        1. Stuart says:

Nice suggestion Johny it’s definitely something we may look into in future updates of the theme, our main goal when developing themes is always to find a nice balance between theme features, code-base size and server resource usage in our themes ;)

  3. johny says:

Also is it possible to remove “NO RESPONSE” to make titles bigger?

    1. Stuart says:

The title box will automatically expand to allow longer titles is you wish, i simply hadnt posted an article title over 45 characters in the demo :)

The latest post on the VisualNews Demo now has a longer title ;)

  4. naum says:

hello, there is no pages section in the header, just categories I guess?

    1. Stuart says:

      Hi Naum,

Yes the header menu is categories, you can add pages via widget in the footer.

  5. naum says:

also is theme supports full width size without sidebar pages?

    1. Stuart says:

Pages allow full width but article pages and grid pages do not.

  6. naum says:

last question, is this theme supports auto timthumb?

I mean creating timthumb just with uploading picture without using custom section.

    1. Stuart says:

The theme uses the wordpress (post thumbnail function) and (featured image on post create page) to display images, all images are automatically resized upon upload by wordpress. No need for timthumb ;)

      1. naum says:

        great than..
